Why it matters
When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity for a recommendation in your category, your brand is either part of the answer or it isn’t. An AI visibility audit is how you find out which, before a prospect does.
We just ran this at scale. Across 5,055 buyer-style ChatGPT conversations testing 131 B2B SaaS brands, the average brand appeared organically in just 12.2% of conversations — even though the same brands appeared in 99.9% of conversations where a user named them directly. Being known to the model and being discovered by it are two different things, and most brands only know the first one.
Two more findings from that study worth sitting with:
- Where a brand did appear in an organic answer, 43.9% of the citations backing that answer pointed to competitor-owned sites — not the brand’s own domain, and not even neutral third parties.
- Vendor-selection questions ("what should I use for X") surfaced brands organically 30.2% of the time. Educational questions ("how does X work") surfaced them only 5.1% of the time.
